*** New Pier Open for Business!
The newly constructed fishing pier is open and ready for your fishing pleasure! It
is located at the end of the meandering sidewalk that stretches from Wisteria through the
park to the lake. Now all of us can take advantage of the lake and its beauty!
Our lake, originally stocked sixteen years ago, has plenty of bass, catfish, crappie,
sunfish, carp and bluegill to test your fishing skills. Or, if you would simply like
to sit and enjoy the view, it offers residents and their guests a beautiful spot for that
as well.
Brookside Landscapes built the dock and landscaped the area around it. A new
concrete bench will also serve as a resting area under one of the birch trees nearby.
It was purchased with funds from neighborhood families as a memorial to Karen
Schiller Franzone, sister of Gene Schiller.
*** Annual Garage Sale
The annual garage sale will be held on Saturday, June 12 and it is being organized
by
Alicia Popham.
Although this event is not sponsored by the Hawthorne Hills Homeowners' Association, many
residents look forward to and participate in it. Remember, there will be extra
traffic on this day. Please be careful and watch for pedestrians.
Wanting to get to know your neighbors better? Why not volunteer to coordinate next year's
garage sale. Please call Alicia Popham at 662-8790 to volunteer today!
*** Annual Cookout - Sunday, August 22, 4 PM to 7 PM
Our annual cookout is scheduled for Sunday, August 22, from 4 PM to 7 PM.
Hotdogs, brats, side dishes, and chips will be provided. Be sure to bring
your own chairs. Updated neighborhood directories will be available.
Other activities will include:
Volleyball
Fishing
Live Music
And a chance to visit with your neighbors!!
The band who played last year, the Dexrays (www.dexrays.com),
will be back playing more blues and classic rock-n-roll. Be sure to come down to
visit with your neighbors!
Photos from previous cookouts are available on our website.
*** Vandalism Costs
As of the end of April, we have had to pay $2,000 to repair damage due to vandalism in our
subdivision. Most of this has occurred in the park and includes items such as broken
lights, damage to lake equipment, and damage to the Japanese Garden.
We ask all homeowners to keep an eye out for suspicious behavior, and contact law
enforcement if appropriate.
*** Misc. Notes
- Thanks to all of you who have paid your annual dues promptly!
- The tennis courts are intended for tennis use only. Other activities can damage
the playing surface. The company that maintains them will not guarantee their work if they
are used for non-tennis activities.
- If you have brush or bulk items to dispose of, please remember City Code prohibits any
items being placed directly on the street. All items to be collected must be placed
between the curb and sidewalk area in front of your residence.
*** Artistically Inclined??
The image below is our current logo for the subdivision. It appears on our official
letterhead, signs at the park, and the Hawthorne Hills directory. If you or any
member of your family has a better idea for this graphic, we would love to see it!
If you have an idea for a new logo, please provide a copy of it to any board member by
September 1, 2004. If we get some interest in this, we plan to unveil the new logo
at our annual meeting in November.
Here are a couple of items to keep in mind if you plan to submit a logo:
- The text "Hawthorne Hills" must be incorporated in the design
- The logo will need to reproduce well in two colors when printed
